When I was a senior in high school and had just started my walk with the Lord, I started having dreams about a place called Somalia. I thought it was just a place I made up in my head. Little did I know that it was actually the horn of Africa and I remember calling one of my best friends and telling her “I don’t know when or how, but I am going to be in Africa one day”.
Nearly seven years later, a man in my local church issued an invitation for a mission trip to Uganda and Rwanda, Africa. I said yes to going and the Lord ignited in me a fire for the nations that I can’t explain. It was a desire to see nations, tribes, and kingdoms return to the Father! To see revival break out among His people as they awaken to the calling He has for them! To hear His children proclaiming His name and placing Him on the rightful throne!
When I got back to the states, my prayer became “Lord, whenever you want to send me back I will go! If someone gives me a plane ticket tomorrow I will pack up everything and go”.
A year later, my pastor looked at me and said he was sending me back to Africa with Overland Missions. So we planned a time for me to go and that summer I went to Chipata, Zambia. It was at one of the houses that we were preaching at and I was looking at their eyes and there was a moment where you just see everything click for them and the Lord began to break things off of them that you see how they have been longing to know the name of who to call on! When you then hear them, weeping and declaring God’s name you can’t get the cry of a nation out of your head because you then want to see that happen in every tribe and nation!
So I knew I needed to go to Advanced Missionary Training with Overland Missions in the midst of a global pandemic, where the calling was confirmed over and over again over my life. During Advanced Missionary Training, I was sent to Mwinilunga for my sector expedition. The Lord truly broke my heart for what breaks His for the people of Mwinilunga and made it known that this is where He was calling me to go!
For my first assignment with Overland, I will be in the Northwest of Zambia in a town called Mwinilunga. My role on this team will be developing their women’s and children’s ministry. I will also be helping get the discipleship school and morning devotionals.
